Description

Danner’s Garden is connected to a crisis shelter located in a renovated historic building from 1875 and has room for 17 women and their children. The garden was created as a safe and secure outdoor environment. It is designed to be a multifunctional space that can support positive distractions, exercise, and a choice of both social and private activities in a series of areas that differentiate in content, size, and level of enclosure.

Highlights

The garden was designed to accommodate nature-based therapy where its sensory qualities are used as therapeutic tools. The therapy is adjusted to women and children exposed to domestic violence to help them deal with the negative consequences of violence and empower them to start new lives away from violence.

Scent characteristics

Plant scents in Danner’s Garden should serve as positive distractions for its users that are experiencing a life crisis. They should also awaken interest in the garden and for the activities it offers and help the women and children become familiar with the garden. Furthermore, plant scents should link to emotions and memories that can give the women and children mental breaks from their crisis.
